The state enterprise "Ukrainian research and training center for standardization, certification and quality" has adopted a state standard for injecting biomethane into distribution and main gas networks.
Based on this document, technical conditions will be issued for connecting biomethane plants to gas distribution networks, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
It is noted that the state standard was developed on the basis of basic EU technical standards. The unification of biomethane quality requirements with European standards is an important step for the export of biomethane to Europe and further integration of gas markets.
The material explained that the standard is all-Ukrainian, that is, all network operators will be able to use it in their work.
It is noted that the document will enter into force on November 1, 2023.
Ihor Gotsyk, head of decarbonization at the Regional Gas Company, said that biomethane, due to its origin, contains components that are not found in natural gas, namely:
- silicon;
- ammonium;
- fluorinated compounds.
He explained that these substances can affect the gas distribution system. Previously, Ukrainian legislation did not take into account these specific qualities of biomethane.
The material added that the development of the standard was carried out by the technical committee for standardization of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gaі with the participation of specialists from JSC Zhytomyrgaz and the technical committee of RGK.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that LLC Operator GTS of Ukraine received applications from more than 10 companies that are considering the possibility of building 31 biomethane plants in Ukraine with a capacity of 225 million cubic meters. m per year.
Also, the National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the spheres of energy and communal services approved changes to the Codes of gas transportation and gas distribution systems, which will allow the supply of biomethane to the network.
