The development of the biomethane market is extremely necessary to reduce Ukraine's dependence on imported energy sources

The National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the spheres of energy and communal services approved changes to the Codes of gas transportation and gas distribution systems, which will allow the supply of biomethane to the network.

The project should stimulate the development of the biomethane market in Ukraine and expand opportunities for biomethane access to the Gas transport system of Ukraine/Gas distribution station, reports the State Energy Efficiency Agency on Facebook.

National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the spheres of energy and communal services supported the proposals of the Ministry of Energy and State Energy Efficiency, as well as market participants regarding the urgent need to introduce these changes.

Thanks to the document, an increase in the molar fraction of oxygen content in natural gas is expected from 0.02 mol. %:

  • up to 0.2 mol. % for access of biomethane to the gas transportation system;
  • up to 1.0 mol. % for access of biomethane to gas distribution systems.

This will allow potential producers of biomethane to immediately contact the operators of the GTS/GDS for technical conditions and will contribute to the development of this market in Ukraine.

The State Energy Efficiency Agency, together with the Ministry of Energy, finalized the draft Procedure for the Operation of the Biomethane Register and submitted it to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval. The launch of the registry will provide an opportunity to verify and provide guarantees of origin for biomethane supplied to the gas transportation system.

"All the above-mentioned consolidated actions give a green light to the full operation of the biomethane market, which is extremely necessary to reduce Ukraine's dependence on imported energy sources," the material said.

We will remind producers of biomethane will be able for 1 hryvnia to join gas networks.
