This will ensure the transparency of the procedure for establishing a zero eco-tax for carbon dioxide emissions for biofuel installations

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposes to amend the law "On Alternative Fuels" regarding the creation of a register of installations that use biofuel as the only type of fuel.

The representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, reported this to Telegram.

The draft law "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Alternative Fuels" regarding the creation of a register of installations using biofuel as the only type of fuel" was registered in the Verkhovna Rada under No. 9597.

The draft law provides for:

  • creation of a register of installations that use biofuel as the only type of fuel for the purpose of administration of the establishment of a zero hryvnia environmental tax rate for carbon dioxide emissions generated during the combustion of biofuel by installations;
  • enshrining in the law "On alternative types of fuel" a provision that provides that the register of installations using biofuel as the only type of fuel will be created by the Cabinet of Ministers, and its management and administration will be carried out by the central executive body, which implements state policy in the field of efficient use of fuel and energy resources, energy saving and alternative types of fuel, in accordance with the procedure established by the government.

Melnychuk emphasized that the adoption of the draft law will ensure the transparency of the procedure for setting the rate of zero hryvnia environmental tax for carbon dioxide emissions for plants that use biofuel as the only type of fuel.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, with the onset of a full-scale war in Ukraine the demand for biofuel increased. People understand the importance of an autonomous or backup source of heat, especially in wartime conditions.
