Current capacities are enough to replace about 5% of traditional diesel

Ukraine can produce 1.6-1.9 million tons of biodiesel per year, which is safer for the environment than traditional diesel and can become a full-fledged alternative to it, especially in conditions of a fuel crisis.

The country has every chance to become a leading producer of biodiesel, writes Kostyantyn Yalovy, a member of the Kyiv City Council of the 8th convocation, on Facebook.

The modern formula for producing biodiesel allows it to be used for almost all cars that run on diesel fuel.

Yalovy noted that Ukraine has land resources and plant raw materials, processing industry and specialists. As well as several dozen enterprises with the necessary production capacities. Currently, most of them are idle.

Biodiesel is produced from oil crops, such as rapeseed, soy and technical oil. Currently, these raw materials are bought by other states.

"There is enough potential to replace a significant share of traditional diesel on the market. After all, as raw materials, you can also use sunflower, residues of oil production, livestock waste. Our country also has enough resources for the production of alcohol, which is a component of biodiesel," Yalovy emphasized.

He also added that the current capacity, according to experts, is enough to replace about 5% of traditional diesel. This percentage can be significantly increased if the industry receives development incentives from the state. Moreover, not only capacities, but also scientific research, which will make the production of biofuel cheaper and more efficient.

When using biodiesel, drivers are advised to change the engine oil on time and use only a high-quality product.

"The industry that will provide the country with biodiesel and bioethanol is not only our energy independence, but also the sustainable development of the green course and the reduction of the carbon footprint. After the victory, we should pay much more attention here. After all, not only the well-being of the state depends on this, but also the ecological safety of our life," Yalovy said.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko stated that the EU is interested in the development of Ukrainian renewable energy sources, in particular biomethane and hydrogen.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, today, when the prices of oil crops have fallen significantly, it becomes economically feasible to process rapeseed into biodiesel.
