In January, the Black Sea washed up on the coast of Crimea 14 dead dolphins, contused by the sonars of military surface and submarines of the Russian fleet.
The biologist and ecologist Ivan Rusev from the national natural park "Tuzlivski lymani" wrote about it on his Facebook page.
He said that for the winter, dolphins migrate to the deep waters of the Black Sea, in particular to the cape area Aya on the South coast of Crimea, Balaclava, Laspi Bay and various bays of Sevastopol.
Rusev emphasized that the spokeswoman spoke about the activity of the enemy fleet of operational command "South" Natalya Humenyuk. She reported that as of the end of December 2022, there were 13 Russian ships in the Black Sea near the bases with a total salvo of 24 cruise missiles that could be on combat duty for 3 hours. Over time, the regrouping of ships in the Black Sea began. And already in mid-January 2023, it was reported about 6 missile carriers with 44 missiles.
According to her, during the massive missile attack on Ukraine on January 14, part of the projectiles were used and only one Russian ship entered the base point. Humenyuk also noted that Russian troops can launch missile strikes even from the bases of Kalibr missile carriers. Although it is dangerous for the enemy himself.
"Of course, the impact of sonars and the impact of powerful noises during the release of Kalibr-type missiles created a negative impact on cetaceans, which are staying near the temporarily occupied Crimean coast this winter," Rusev emphasized.
He emphasized that the death of dolphins is directly related to war factors. After all, there were no reports of dolphin deaths in other parts of the Black Sea.
"We are monitoring the development of the event and are anxiously waiting for the beginning of the spring of 2023, which will again call the Black Sea cetaceans to migrate to the warm and very food-rich North-Western Black Sea coast, but with great hope we hope to observe exceptionally lively and playful dolphins - people of the sea," added the ecologist.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Odesa scientists from the national natural park "Tuzlivski Lymani" found it on the coast new remains of dead dolphins.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, Serhiy Kostenko, head of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, said that since February 24, 2022, 95 dolphins have died in the region, and the prosecutor's office is conducting investigation under Art. 441 (ecocide) of the Criminal Code.
