The Kyiv City State Administration showed the process of restoring the meadows near Lake Tyagle, which were damaged by a fire on March 5.
This was reported by Oleksandr Voznyi, Director of the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration, on Facebook.
As it became known, after analyzing the situation, consulting with scientists and the community, it was decided not to resort to artificial actions to restore the ecosystem.
"There are calls from some Kyivans that trees should be planted at the site of the fire. According to scientists, these meadows are a part of the ecosystem, where nature itself actively regulates this zone, so it can not be afforested additionally," Vozny said in comments The Village.
According to him, any intervention, such as planting grasses, planting trees or afforestation, will only exacerbate the damage in this unique area, given the nature of the damage and the status of the landscape reserve.
"As we can see, this approach has justified itself – the ecosystem is actively recovering on its own," Vozny emphasized.
"Finally, I would like to remind you that immediately after this incident, the city authorities asked the law enforcement officers to conduct an investigation and establish the causes of the fire, and if it turns out that it was arson, to bring the culprits to justice. We are waiting for the results of the investigation," added Vozny.
As EcoPolitic reported, a fire broke out in Kyiv around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, on the territory of the Osokorki ecopark, which engulfed about 3 hectares of reeds and grass in the "Osokorkivski Luky" and "Tyagle Lake" reserves.
In Kyiv, a fire in the "Osokorki" eco-park destroyed 7% of the natural floodplain vegetation in the wet meadows of the "Osokorkivski meadows" reserve of local importance. The amount of damage from the fire reached 500 thousand hryvnias.
