This spring, foresters in the Kirovohrad region plan to create 87 hectares of new forest by planting 600,000 oak and pine seedlings, and will also replant trees that have not taken root.
This was reported by Suspilne Kropyvnytskyi.
"We have already planted more than ten hectares. Our farm is hardwood: the main species is common oak. In sandy areas, which is Krylivka forestry in the Svitlovodsk community, we use scrub pine," said engineer Olena Kyrpa.
The engineers showed a conveyor for automated seed sowing, where Crimean pine is grown.
"We raised 39,000 seedlings. They will be used to create New Year's trees. Last year, we raised 109,000 oak seedlings," says Olena Kirpa.
Oaks are planted from pellets in which seedlings were grown from acorns.
"It is sown in special cassettes – 40 cells in each. The height of the oak cassette is 18 centimeters, four by four – the area, 300 grams of soil is placed there. We pulled it out of the cell – in fact, its entire root system is alive. Even this year's root left . We expect it to be 100% survivable," the engineer adds
The journalists visited the Bozhe forest tract in the Oleksandriya district. There, on a plot of almost three hectares, employees of the Chornobyl Forestry are planting annual oaks. Some employees have been involved in the creation of the new forest for more than 20 years.
"It is indescribable when you see the forest you personally planted growing. When planting trees, the main thing is that the root collar should be two centimeters deeper than the ground level. That's why we trample it – to squeeze out the air," says driver Oleksandr Havrylenko.
Foresters say the trees will grow for at least a hundred years.
As Ecopolitic previously reported, the state enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" plans to plant 200 million seedlings in 2024 on log cabins, community lands transferred to the forest fund, and all free territories for forestry.
