Specialists of the observatory took and analyzed 1,650 samples of atmospheric air

In the air of Kyiv during the week with 24 to 29 in October 2022, an excess of the average daily maximum allowable concentrations of nitrogen dioxide was found to be 6.1 times higher.

Compared to the previous week, the level of sulfur dioxide pollution has increased, the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory informs about it.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • 5.4-6.1 times – October 28 on Bessarabska Square, Inzhener Borodin and Kaunaska Streets;
  • 2.2-4.9 times – on Demiivska and Peremoha squares, Obolonskimo and Peremoha avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka and Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • 1.2-1.8 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska, and Peremoha squares, Obolonskimo and Peremoha avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska (intersection with Vaclav Havel boulevard), Dovzhenka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska, Hetman Pavla streets Polubotka and Semena Sklyarenko;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • formaldehyde – 1.3-2.4 times on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Nauka, Peremoha and Obolonski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Kaunaska, Hetman Pavla Polubotka and Sklyarenko streets;
  • carbon monoxide – 1.0-1.7 times on Peremogy Avenue, Akademik Strazheska and Sklyarenko streets

Specialists of the observatory selected and analyzed 1650 atmospheric air samples from 16 stationary posts.

The message noted that, for the forecast of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center for the next two to three days predicts a changeable nature of the weather, which will mostly not contribute to the dispersion of harmful impurities in the surface layer of the air.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, Kyivans will be able to quickly receive notifications about deterioration of air quality in the "Kyiv Digital" application.
