The underground section of the Lybid River was cleared of 3,000 m3 of garbage

In 2023, 8,223 trees, 78,826 bushes, and 321,200 seedlings were planted in Kyiv.

Throughout the year, the city carried out ecological ice control, organized grass-free areas, cleared the Lybid River, and more, reports Oleksandr Voznyi, head of the KCSA's Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, on Facebook.

During the presentation of the department's annual report, he said that the department and utility companies, despite the difficulties of wartime, worked to make the city more environmentally friendly and green.

"We carried out round-the-clock monitoring of atmospheric air quality, actively worked in the field of green farming, protection and maintenance of water bodies, forest park farms, and objects of the nature reserve fund, and from the end of the year we also began to take care of the field of animal protection," said Vozniy .

Among the main achievements of 2023, he also named:

  • planting about 6 million flowers, a third of which are perennial;
  • "digitization" of more than 185,000 trees;
  • approval of 15 petitions regarding the creation of protected objects in Kyiv;
  • installation of two additional radiation background measurement sensors that transmit data online. Now 7 such sensors are working in Kyiv;
  • cleaning of the underground section of the Lybid river from almost 3 thousand m3 of garbage;
  • creating a Ukrainian translation of European tree care standards and starting work on their implementation;
  • disposal of more than 2 million incandescent lamps, which Ukrainians replaced with LED lamps during the exchange program.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that at its session on February 29, the Kyiv City Council supported a list of environmental measures for 2024, which includes the restoration of the unique Synye Lake and the cleanup of mercury at the Radical plant site.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Kyiv City Council has banned jeeping, i.e. riding ATVs, cars, buggies, etc. on the territory of the nature reserve fund.
