The Ministry of Environmental Protection commented on the situation

In the city of Dnipro, dismantling of a building damaged by a rocket attack on January 14, 2023, began in March. It is reported that the remains of the destroyed building were dumped into the river.

This was reported by the NGO SaveDnipro on Facebook.

The organization emphasizes that demolition waste is very hazardous to the environment, so it should have separate regulations for handling. Even temporary storage of such waste should be carried out at a distance of at least 2 km from water bodies.

This regulation is part of the Procedure for the Management of Waste Generated by Damage to Buildings and Structures as a Result of Hostilities, Terrorist Acts, Sabotage or Works to Eliminate Their Consequences.

"We think that it is not even worth discussing that, in addition to violating environmental norms, this is simply a mockery of the memory of people who died or were injured as a result of Russian terrorist actions. Aren't we better?", the organization reports.

Activists believe that this is probably being done in order to strengthen the artificial jetty of the "Sich" yacht club.

"We perceive this situation as particularly painful, because we have long been concerned with the environmental problems of the Dnipro in general and the Peremoh embankment in particular," SaveDnipro says.

It became known that the organization made an official statement to the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

"Inspectors of the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine will visit the site to verify the facts of violations of environmental protection legislation. All appropriate measures will be taken," the representatives of the Ministry of Environment noted in comments to the recording.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Poltava region, the Ecoltava NGO discovered the contamination of Pushkar ponds and took water samples for analysis.
