In Dnipro, the Underground sorting station accepts about 50 types of recyclables and makes benches, ceiling tiles, and handbags and bracelets from plastic.
The waste sorting station has been operating for about two years, according to a story on YouTube Channel 11.
The story says that polypropylene from food storage containers is used to make the benches. The raw materials for one such bench, about 35 kg, are collected for about three months.
It is noted that at first, the station accepted only glass, plastic, and paper. Now, thousands of people visit the center every month and sort waste into about 50 items, among others:
- 10 types of plastic;
- paper;
- aluminum;
- packaging of the Tetra Pak type;
- foil and other waste.
The head of the Underground, Oleksandr Grechka, said that plastic is crushed and melted in a furnace at the station. Next, the raw materials are pressed to obtain slabs. They are used to make beads and beads, from which his 15-year-old daughter weaves bracelets and handbags. Part of the proceeds from the sale is sent to the needs of the Armed Forces.
"These two bags should go to a boutique in Paris as exhibition material. Maybe they will sell right away, or maybe after we make a few more. In November, part of the collection went to Los Angeles," he said.
The station is open every Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the address: st. Filosofska, 19a.
As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in Ivano-Frankivsk HDPE-plastic processing workshop "EcoREactive" produced 70 benches from three tons of lids and canisters in two years.
