The size of the environmental tax for CO2 emissions remained unchanged – UAH 30 per ton

The project of the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024 foresees a new budget program "State Fund for Decarbonization and Energy Efficient Transformation" in the amount of 759.2 million hryvnias.

This is stated in the explanatory note to the draft state budget-2024.

The fund will be filled at the expense of environmental tax revenues to the special fund of the state budget. Ecotax is paid for carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by stationary sources of pollution.

"The functioning of the state fund for decarbonization and energy-efficient transformation will contribute to the implementation of measures to increase energy efficiency, reduce emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and increase the use of renewable energy sources and alternative fuels," the document states.

In the 2024 draft state budget, the amount of the environmental tax for emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere (provided that it exceeds 500 tons per year) remained unchanged – UAH 30 per 1 ton.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in April the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and as a whole the government bill No. 8433 "On Amendments to Chapter VI "Final and Transitional Provisions" of the Budget Code of Ukraine regarding the use of funds from accounts for the support of Ukraine", which provides for the creation of the State Decarbonization Fund and energy-efficient transformation. In May, the document was signed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi
