In Chernivtsi, the company "Ukrvtorresurs-Bukovyny" has launched a waste sorting line, which has not been used for several years, at the municipal solid waste landfill.
This was told by Deputy Mayor Ihor Krokhmal, adding that the line has been operating for about a month, Young Bukovynets reports.
He emphasized that already sorted garbage is brought to the line. Service providers are now themselves interested in sorting garbage, because there is a demand for it and raw materials can be sold. The company is currently studying sales markets.
On the sorting line, they select:
- PET bottles;
- paper;
- glass;
Krokhmal explained that the residues after sorting are taken to the landfill.
He said that the so-called high-calorie waste, in particular film and rubber, is an alternative fuel. In Chernivtsi, a memorandum has already been concluded with the Kamianets-Podilsky cement plant for the purchase of such waste.
"This is garbage that burns. It is processed at the enterprise and used in its furnaces for the production of cement. Such a line at the plant is already working. They need such sorted garbage from three or four regions," Krokhmal said.
According to him, the Kamianets-Podilsky cement plant will collect almost 30% of the community's solid household waste.
Krohmal added that sorting garbage is a very necessary process that allows you to take care of the environment and reduce the burden on the landfill. In addition, it will reduce disposal costs and, accordingly, the tariff.
He emphasized that one sorting line is not enough for the community and it needs at least two more.
"We offer entrepreneurs to join this business and establish their own lines. In addition, in the landfill reconstruction project that we are currently developing, we have provided two more sorting lines that will allow all solid waste to pass through sorting," said Krokhmal.
He emphasized that the city is actively implementing waste sorting and calls on citizens to actively participate in this.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Chernivtsi in May 2022, more than 300 thousand UAH were earned by sorting garbage.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Chernivtsi, in schools, kindergartens and after-school clubs containers were installed for sorting garbage.
