Since the beginning of a full-scale war, russian troops have carried out more than 250 cases of ecocide and caused damage to the environment for at least 202 billion hryvnias.
This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets during a joint briefing with EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginius Sinkevičius, reports Ukrainian truth.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and the State Environmental Inspectorate jointly record all the losses caused by the occupiers. There are already more than 2 thousand cases when the environment was harmed (and this is every rocket falling into the river).
“We will definitely fix all this and calculate according to new methods, which we plan to make 11 and apply them thanks to our European partners,” Strilets emphasized.
He explained that the "wastes of the war" include contaminated territories, destroyed equipment of the invaders, broken houses, etc.
Experts calculate each element of enemy military equipment, which amounted to more than 200 thousand tons of hazardous waste and scrap metal, each destroyed house is 50 cubic meters of destruction waste.
The minister noted that soon the Ministry of Natural Resources would submit to the government a methodology and procedure for the disposal of waste from the destruction caused by the occupiers.
"Most of this waste is now located in scattered areas. The procedure for handling such waste provides for their localization in certain places so that local governments can organize processing," - he said.
In the future, recycled waste will be used to rebuild the country, in particular for construction, road rehabilitation, etc.
Sagittarius also noted that every Ukrainian can join the "battalion of environmentalists" using the application "Ecothreat".
Through the application, witnesses can report all the facts of environmental crimes against the environment:
- burning of military equipment;
- fire in the forest;
- spill of oil products or toxic substances into the soil or water;
- release of toxic substances (chlorine, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, hydrocyanic acid, nitric acid) into the atmosphere, etc.
"We collect all these facts together. There is a convenient dashboard that calculates the approximate total loss figures, which will be verified in the future together with our European colleagues, partners and friends", - Sagittarius explained.
He also emphasized that Ukraine would definitely bill the invaders for the damage caused to the environment during the war.
Recall the expert called anti-top 5 environmental crimes RF against Ukraine.
As EcoPolitics reported earlier, the consequences of Russian aggression for the environment per week are named.
