In 2019, 206 trees were cut down beyond the forest line, which is not subject to felling

In Volyn, the court forced the Volyn Military Forest State Enterprise to compensate over 1.24 million hryvnias for the destruction of 237 trees.

Violations were discovered by eco-inspectors during an unscheduled inspection on behalf of the Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2020, the State Environmental Inspection in the Volyn region reports on Facebook.

"In the course of the inspection, it was discovered that Berezhnytskyi Forestry, which is part of the Volyn Military Forestry State Enterprise, in 2019 allowed felling of 206 trees of various species beyond the boundary of the forest line, which is not subject to felling," the report said.

Also, eco-inspectors found that in 2020, during sanitary selective felling, 30 trees were illegally cut down and another was damaged to the point of stopping growth. This caused UAH 1,246,697.72 in damages.

The message noted that the prosecutor's office appealed to the Economic Court of the Volyn region to recover the entire amount from the forest farm. The court decided to satisfy the claim.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that he North-Western Appellate Economic Court annulled the decision of the first instance and obliged LLC "Kostopil Plywood Plant", located in the Rivne region, to compensate over 1 million hryvnias.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, business entities in Volyn during the first half of 2022 paid more than 13.3 million hryvnias in environmental tax.
