Citizens can apply for placement of stations outside their windows

The Lutsk city territorial community has joined the "LUN City AIR" network, which will allow citizens to receive information about air quality in real time.

By the end of the year, the network is planned to be expanded to all the largest cities in the west and center of Ukraine, and after the victory – to the de-occupied territories, says the website of the Lutsk City Council.

The message emphasized that the monitoring system will show the impact of automobile emissions, burning of fossil fuels and fires on air pollution.

"LUN City AIR is a public network of air quality analysis, created by the teams of LUN City and KNU Shevchenko," explained the message. – The organization's mission is to explore the comfort and quality of life in Ukrainian cities and to promote their sustainable development."

It is noted that this public monitoring network has been operating for more than 4 years. Currently, stations are installed in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Uzhgorod, Odesa, Chernivtsi and other cities. They measure pollution with hazardous dust of different particle sizes (PM1, PM2.5, PM10), as well as air temperature, pressure and humidity. The station map is available at the link.

"Stations are not sold, but provided to cities free of charge. Maintenance of the equipment is also free of charge," the message emphasized.

It is noted that the network data is used by international and Ukrainian organizations, as well as the official application of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources "EkoZagroza". After subscribers join Lutsk, the data will be broadcast on the city application "Clean Air Lutsk" in real time on an interactive map.

The press service emphasized that citizens can apply for placement of stations outside their windows. For this, you need to submit an application using the link. The condition for installing the sensors is:

  • lack of a grid on the window;
  • the presence of an outlet near the window;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • modern gadget.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in October 2022, the head of the Ecocommission of the Volyn Regional Council, Yuriy Royko, announced that the region plans to increase the number of stationary air monitoring points and expand the list of pollutants to be monitored. At that time, only 4 stationary observation points were functioning in the region, three of which were in Lutsk.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in December 2022, air quality monitoring stations with an additional radiation background sensor began to be installed in Volyn in the Lyubeshivska community.
