Healthy dolphins have strong immune systems and their deaths from infections are extremely rare. The main reason is military action

In the national park "Tuzlivski lymani", in Odesa region, 3 dead bottlenose dolphins were again found, and not far from the national park another white-sided dolphin.

As a result of hostilities, animals become blind due to surface and submarine sonar devices, get sick, fall into nets and are blown up by mines, writes ecologist of the "Tuzlovsky lymany" NPP Ivan Rusev on Facebook.

As you know, the russian troops blocked navigation in the Black Sea and mined the northwestern part of the sea area, and the use of sonar devices (sonars) creates powerful sounds that negatively affect the health of animals. When dolphins fall into the radiation zone of ships' navigation devices, it disables their navigation and echolocation organs.

"Dolphins also suffer from powerful explosions during the bombing, which has been going on for several days in a row. If the organs of navigation and hearing are damaged, dolphins cannot use echolocation, that is, they become virtually blind, Rusev said.

Having lost orientation, animals lose acoustic control over the environment. Blind dolphins are in stress and panic, they cannot navigate in space. As a result, they hit all kinds of obstacles, including mines, crash on rocks, and can't catch fish and quickly get exhausted.

Weakened animals suffer from diseases, the viruses of which live in them constantly. They also end up in the nets of Turkish fishermen without even reacting to pingers (a special dolphin-repelling device that Turkish fishermen install on nets).

"Russian scientists cite infectious diseases and entrapment in nets as the reason for the numerous deaths of dolphins in the Black Sea during hostilities. We refute these versions with the above arguments," Rusev noted.

He explained that healthy dolphins have a strong immune system and their death from infections is extremely rare. The main reason is military operations.

In order to restore dolphin populations after the victory, it is necessary to quickly create a reserve or a national natural park in the Northwestern waters of the Black Sea, large in area (at least 3,000 square kilometers) or to significantly increase the water areas of the National Natural Park "Tuzlivski Lymani".

We will remind it became known how many dolphins were killed by the war caued by russia.

As Ecopolitic previously reported, several thousand dolphins in the Black Sea became victims of the Russian war.
