On the coast of the Black Sea in Odesa, in the national natural park Tuzlivski lymani, bright tropical birds of the syvoraksha have come to nest.

This is a rare bird of the fauna of Ukraine, which is listed in the Red Book, wrote biologist and ecologist from the national park Ivan Rusev on Facebook.

He emphasized that the birds flew from South Africa, having traveled 6,000 km.

"Syvorakshi flew through many different countries and arrived in a country where the war has been going on for the second year," Rusev said.

The biologist explained that the birds are currently cleaning old burrows on the cliffs above the estuaries. They are in a hurry to raise the chicks before they fly to Africa in August.

Syvorakshi are slightly smaller than a pigeon and have a bright color greenish-blue feathers and purple-blue leading edge of wings. Older birds have a more saturated color. Until the 1970s, these birds nested throughout the territory of Ukraine, but now they have disappeared from most areas of Polissia and Forest Steppe.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that a flock of 210 flamingos was spotted in Odesa region in the national natural park "Tuzlivski lymani".

As EcoPolitic previously reported, more than 10,000 migrating waders have flown to Odesa region to the national natural park "Tuzlivski Lymani".
