A solar power plant on the roof of the Berezhany hospital in Ternopil region has saved UAH 75,000 in six months of operation.
Currently, the capacity of the solar power plant reaches 36 kW, but it can be increased to 50 kW, according to Suspilne.
It is noted that the station consists of 66 solar panels that provide electricity to all buildings of the medical institution. The station does not cover all of the hospital's energy needs, so part of them is provided by energy from the general grid.
Yevhen Zahrebelnyi, Deputy Director of Berezhany Hospital for Economic Affairs, said that the power of the inverter that converts direct current from the solar power plant into alternating current reaches 50 kW.
"We can add photo modules up to 50 kW and can increase the power of the station. We have a main line laid from the inverter to the transformer and the meter, from where it goes into the network and we consume current," he said.
Zagrebelnyi explained that since September 2023, the SPP has produced 28,000 kW of energy, which has saved 75,000 hryvnias in paying bills. However, the efficiency of the power plant is lower in winter.
"The total annual output of this station is 30,000 kW. But there are summer and winter months. In the winter months, the production reaches up to a thousand kW, and in the summer months – from May to September – the production of electricity can reach up to 6,000 kW in one month. This station does not fully meet the needs of our hospital. If we do not have enough energy produced by solar panels, we take it from the power grid itself. If there is a surplus, it goes to the grid," he said.
Rostyslav Bortnyk, head of the Berezhany community, noted that the solar power plant was installed with money from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. Its cost reached €25 thousand. Initially, it was planned to install the panels at the water pumping station in Berezhany, but the project was later redesigned to ensure continuous treatment in the face of power outages.
"The approximate electricity savings in the community for the hospital will reach from 250,000 to 300,000 hryvnias per year. These are solid funds, and we think that this will make it possible to use the saved funds for some other needs, more important for the community," he emphasized.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Chortkiv community in Ternopil Oblast will receive 978 new solar panels with a total capacity of 315 kW from the Swiss company Helion Energy for free.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kharkiv, a solar power plant and a generator installed on the roof of one of the buildings of Hospital No. 17 provided 22 kWh of electricity during a blackout as a result of an enemy attack on the power grid on March 22. This amount of energy is enough to meet the critical needs of the hospital.
