The region is currently conducting detailed monitoring of forests damaged by amber mining

In Rivne region, 180,000 pine and birch saplings were planted in the Volodymyretsk community on the site of the "Sonyachne remeslo" company for legal amber mining.

In the region, they plan to restore forests in the areas that were damaged due to illegal stone mining, reports the Polissky Forestry Office on Facebook.

The head of the Rivne military administration, Vitaliy Koval, said that in the region in 2021, a similar section has already been restored. 98% of young trees took root on it.

"This is a good example when a business that has all permits and documents, pays taxes and creates new jobs, also takes care of the environment together with caring people," he said.

Oleksandr Kvatyrko, director of the Polissky Forestry Office, said that detailed monitoring of the damaged areas of the state forest fund, which reach 4.5 thousand hectares, is currently being carried out in the region. Natural restoration has already taken place in some of these areas. There are areas where it is possible to mineralize the soil and plant a new forest. However, there are areas where the depth of soil damage is quite significant.

He added that the plan of further actions will be developed point by point for each individual site.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that on the border of the Rivne Nature Reserve is planned to start extraction of amber in the area of the largest swamp massifs Ukraine's Raw Chasing. The Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources agreed to put the site up for auction, although it had previously agreed to bequeath this territory.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the police found the driver of a pickup truck in the Rivne region 42 kilograms of amber for $3 thousand, at approximate prices of the black market.
