There are 3 more cases of this category under consideration in the courts, and prosecutors have prepared 4 similar lawsuits

In Mykolaiv region, a court returned four ancient burial mounds in Bashtanka and Pervomaisk districts from private ownership as part of agricultural land to state ownership.

These mounds were burial sites of the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.

"These archaeological monuments, contrary to the requirements of the law, were transferred to the ownership of citizens," the statement emphasized.

It is noted that after discovering these cases, prosecutors filed lawsuits to remove obstacles to the use of these monuments.

The press service said that during the excavations, archaeologists found a large number of:

  • gold jewelry;
  • household items;
  • various dishes and clothes of noble Scythians and Sarmatians;
  • weapons and armor of Polovtsian soldiers;
  • statues of Scythian leaders;
  • anthropomorphic stelae and other artifacts.

The message explained that the presence of mounds in private property and their plowing during agricultural works will damage the outer layer of monuments. In addition, this will lead to the loss of the possibility of researching their contents, and therefore – invaluable information about archaeological cultures.

It is noted that 3 cases of this category are currently pending in the courts. In addition, the prosecutors prepared 4 more similar statements of claim.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Zhytomyr Regional State Administration has issued a permit for further work on granite extraction in the quarry, which covers the territory of the geological nature monument "Lyznykovskiy granite outcrops" without any environmental restrictions.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, 620 hectares of territory of the regional landscape park "Vysunsko-Inguletskyi" was plowed up and given to private ownership in the Mykolayiv region.
