Funds from eco-taxes will be directed to reducing environmental pollution

In Lviv region, polluting enterprises paid 32.9 million hryvnias in environmental taxes for January-February 2023.

From this amount, 9.8 million hryvnias will go to the special fund of the regional budget for environmental protection, which is 177.8% of the expected amount, the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration reports on Facebook.

The message explained that the environmental tax is essentially compensation for pollution by enterprises. And thanks to its timely and full payment, Lviv region managed to ensure that planned revenues were exceeded in January-February 2023.

The press service said that funds from eco-taxes will be directed to:

  • implementation of nature protection and resource conservation measures;
  • prevention, reduction and elimination of environmental pollution.

It is noted that the eco-tax is a nationwide mandatory payment, which is paid for:

  • emissions into atmospheric air;
  • discharges of polluting substances into water bodies;
  • placement of waste;
  • generation of radioactive waste.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Ukraine there are several types of environmental taxes that companies must pay.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the group of mining and metallurgical companies "Metinvest" paid 600 million hryvnias of environmental taxes to the state and local budgets in 2022.
