In Lviv region, the head of a company that specializes in waste removal and recycling has been suspected of contaminating the land of a defense plant.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Western Region on Facebook.

According to the investigation, the suspect illegally ordered his subordinates to place solid household waste on the territory of the state defense plant, which led to the contamination of 2,000 m² of land with phosphorus, chloride, zinc, cadmium, lead and other hazardous substances that pose a threat to life and health.

The press service said that the head of the company wanted to save time, money and simplify the work process in this way, but instead caused losses to the Lviv territorial community in the amount of more than UAH 14.5 million.

Currently, measures are being taken to eliminate negative consequences for the environment.

Under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, the director of the Lviv enterprise was notified of the suspicion of land contamination (Part 2 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The issue of selection for the suspect as a preventive measure is still being resolved.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, prosecutors in Kirovohrad Oblast sent an indictment to the court against the former director of a waste company on charges of land pollution and damage.
