The first animal rehabilitation and rescue center in the Chernivtsi region has released its first patient, Mykyta, into the wild.
The fox with a broken paw was brought in by local residents and employees of the Cheremosh National Nature Park took care of him for about three weeks, Suspilne reports.
It is noted that the injured animal was exhausted because it could not find food. Probably, the fox got caught in a snares during hunting.
"He had a broken leg with signs of damage. We examined him from the outside, saw that the leg was completely broken and could fall off. We understood that we had to keep him here and feed him. We discussed with the management whether we could accept him and decided that we should take , because it's a shame," said Olesya Trufin, a nature conservationist at the Perkalab Nature Conservation and Research Department.
The material explained that the animal was taken care of in shifts so that the fox did not get used to a specific person.
"The fox was improving: when he first came to us, he was exhausted and exhausted, hiding in a corner. Now he walks freely and runs around the enclosure. He is already cheerful, trying to get out. We prepared porridge with vegetables for him. We know what can be given fruits and berries that are in the wild," said Trufin.
It is noted that several cages have already been made in the center to treat injured animals. Near the enclosures there is a fenced area of 7,000 m2 for the rehabilitation of deer, deer and other ungulates. Later, it is planned to equip rooms for operations and an incubator for small birds and animals, as well as manipulation rooms. If the demand for rehabilitation services for animals grows, the national park plans to create a full-fledged center.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, a network of 16 animal rehabilitation and rescue centers will be created in Ukraine, the first of which has already been opened in the Cheremosky National Nature Park.
