The European Commission did not approve the BATM for ferrous steel industry

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has released new translated Best Available Technologies and Management Practices (BATM) reference documents for non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy.

The documents will help launch eco-modernization and restoration of domestic industry, and product manufacturers will help enter European markets, the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.

The informed emphasized that the conclusions of BATM are available on the website of the Ministry of Environment. The Department calls on representatives of industry, the public, the scientific community, authorities and other interested parties to familiarize themselves with them and join the dialogue regarding their implementation:

The press service said that the date and place of the discussion will be announced later.

It is noted that the European Commission did not approve the BATM for ferrous metallurgy (March 2019). Therefore, it contains only preliminary conclusions of EC services and is not the official position of the department. In 2022, the updated BATM for this industry was published on the website of the European IPPC Bureau. Work on its translation is underway.

The message emphasized that the BATM is the basis for establishing maximum permissible emissions and issuing permits for installations covered by Annex I of Directive 2010/75/EU on industrial emissions. Their implementation is part of Ukraine's European integration obligations.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has published the first reference documents on BATM (best available technologies and management methods) on the production of iron and steel, cement, lime and magnesium oxide, as well as on energy efficiency.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources held the first round table with representatives of the public and business to discuss three translated reference documents from BATM (best available technologies and management methods).
