The permit provides for the extraction of peat on 400 hectares for 20 years

Director of the Department of Urban Agglomeration of the Lviv City Council Yuriy Lukashevsky said that Lviv deputies will appeal to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal about the inadmissibility of peat extraction on the territory of the Gamaleyevske Reservoir.

They demand to cancel the results of the auction of the State Service of Geology and Subsoil and to prevent such auctions from being held without the knowledge of the communities, according to Tvoje Misto.

It is noted that this issue was considered during the session of the Lviv City Council on February 8.

The material says that on September 21, 2023, the State Service of Geology and Subsoil held an auction for the sale of a special permit for the use of subsoil for the Gamaliyivka reservoir site. This site is located on the territory of the Lviv agglomeration and covers Lviv, Murovanka and Novoyarichivska communities.

The auction was won by ZAPORIZKA AGRO-INDUSTRIAL COMPANY LLC for UAH 6 million.

According to Lukashevsky, none of the communities were informed about the intention to extract peat in this area. The permit provides for the extraction of peat on the territory of 400 hectares for 20 years.

He added that the reservoir provides the "Lvivteploenergo" company with reserve technical water. Therefore, mining creates an energy hazard for the city.

"The issue is very important. During the war, someone decided to cause great damage to the ecology of the Lviv community. On my behalf, prepare an appeal to all authorities," said Mayor Andriy Sadovy.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Volyn, an auction was held for the granting of a special permit for mining sand from the Starovyzhiv deposit, 150 hectares of which are located in the general zoological reserve "Smolyarivskyi".

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Lviv Oblast the court did not support the cancellation of protected status of the landscape reserve of local importance "Torfovishche Bilogorshcha", which was demanded by four garage cooperatives.
