The document will help reduce energy losses and reduce greenhouse gas emissions

The VRU Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services recommended the Parliament to adopt in the second reading draft law No. 4527 "On amendments to the law of Ukraine "On the combined production of thermal and electric energy (cogeneration) and the use of waste energy potential" on the development of highly efficient cogeneration" .

The document will create conditions for Ukraine's transition to modern, highly efficient cogeneration, the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving reports on Facebook.

The message noted that the document was developed by experts of the State Energy Efficiency Agency in compliance with European standards, in particular, Directive 2012/27/EU dated October 25, 2012 "On Energy Efficiency".

"High-efficiency cogeneration plants must provide savings of primary energy at a level not lower than 10% compared to the control efficiency values for separate production of electricity and thermal energy," the press service emphasized.

The bill will introduce:

  • a new qualification mechanism for cogeneration plants that will meet the requirements of Directive 2012/27/EU;
  • guarantees of the origin of electric energy produced by highly efficient cogeneration plants.

The message noted that the adoption of the document will make Ukraine one of the states that at the legislative level support and stimulate the development of highly efficient cogeneration, and will contribute to:

  • reconstruction of existing heat-generating facilities into highly efficient installations for the combined production of electricity and thermal energy;
  • increasing the efficiency of fuel use;
  • reduction of energy losses in networks thanks to the distributed placement of decentralized energy sources;
  • reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Concept implementation of smart networks in Ukraine until 2035 and approved the Action Plan for its implementation.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced changes to ecodesign requirements of energy-consuming products in accordance with the updated EU legislation.
