The new requirements will improve the energy and environmental characteristics of the equipment

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has made changes to the requirements for eco-design of energy-consuming products in accordance with the updated EU legislation.

The government approved Resolution No. 1222 "On Amendments to Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 804 of October 3, 2018 and No. 152 of February 27, 2019," reports the State Energy Efficiency Agency on Facebook.

The press service of the State Energy Efficiency Agency emphasized that this was another step of Ukraine in fulfilling its European integration obligations.

"Ukraine, having received the status of a candidate for EU membership, continues to actively work on European integration. In particular, the State Energy Efficiency Agency is developing technical regulations on eco-design requirements for machinery and equipment, taking into account modern European standards," the message reads.

The changes concern:

  • of the technical regulation on the system for determining the requirements for eco-design of energy-consuming products, approved by Government Resolution No. 804 dated 03.10.2018;
  • of the technical regulation on eco-design requirements for small, medium and large power transformers, approved by Resolution No. 152 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated February 27, 2019.

The message explained that establishing requirements for ecodesign will mean improving the energy and environmental characteristics of equipment, in particular, power transformers used in electricity transmission and distribution networks or in industry. In the future, this will be an additional contribution to reducing energy consumption and increasing the sustainability of the energy system.

The press service noted that the new requirements will allow:

  • reduce the use of energy resources in the design, manufacture, use and disposal of equipment;
  • prevent energy-intensive equipment with the greatest negative impact on the environment from entering the Ukrainian market;
  • to increase the competitiveness of products on the international market.

As EcoPolitic reported before, State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving implemented EU requirements for eco-design and energy labeling of Ukrainian equipment and machinery.
