In Ukraine, violators of environmental protection legislation in 9 months of 2022 compensated the state budget for more than 56 million hryvnias of environmental damage.
The overall dynamics of payments, both voluntary and judicial, increased by 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2021, the State Inspection Service (SEI) reports on Facebook.
In the message, it was noted that the increase in compensation became possible thanks to the effective work of the DEI legal services.
As of September 30, 2022, environmental violators have compensated:
- more than UAH 22 million in voluntary losses;
- more than UAH 31.2 million in legal damages;
- almost UAH 2.8 million in fines.
The press service of the State Inspectorate emphasized that almost 53% of violations are committed by unidentified persons. Eco-inspectors send all necessary materials together with calculations to law enforcement agencies to identify the guilty parties.
In the message, it was noted that in June 2022, in order to improve the interaction between the prosecutor's office, the National Police, the SBU and state specialized institutions during the detection and judicial investigation of criminal offenses against the environment, a procedure was approved that defines the procedure and requirements necessary for the effective implementation of investigations actions to detect crimes against the environment.
"We expect that thanks to concerted actions and joint efforts we will achieve the standard: caused damage to the environment – pay damages in the amount of 100%," added the SEI press service.
