How to relax in nature without harming the environment

With the onset of warm, sunny days, Ukrainians are increasingly going to relax in the woods, near lakes or rivers

The State Ecological Inspectorate of the Polissia District has shared 3 main rules on how not to harm the environment while outdoors.

The experts posted this useful information on the official Telegram channel.

Rule 1 – Do not leave garbage

  • when going on vacation, always take enough garbage bags with you;
  • take absolutely everything you brought with you, even if you think that “this napkin will quickly decompose” or “one cigarette butt will do nothing”;
  • take the collected garbage to the nearest waste collection point or garbage container.

Rule №2 – Build fires with caution

  • make fires only in specially designated areas. These can be equipped fire pits in recreation areas or your own grills;
  • before you leave, make sure there are no smoldering embers or heat that could cause a fire;
  • never start a fire in unauthorized places, especially on dry grass, under tree canopies or near flammable materials.

Rule №3 – Do not harm plants and animals

  • do not pick rare and endangered flowers, especially those listed in the Red Book of Ukraine;
  • do not touch wild animals, try not to disturb them, do not feed them human food that may be harmful to wild animals.

What fines await violators

  1. For littering forest areas, administrative liability is provided with fines for citizens ranging from UAH 51 to 119, and for officials – from UAH 170 to 340.
  2. Violation of fire safety rules is subject to administrative liability, which entails a fine of UAH 1,530 to UAH 6,120 for individuals and UAH 4,590 to UAH 21,420 for officials. If illegal actions are committed within the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund, the amount of fines for citizens is from UAH 6,120 to 12,240, and for officials – from UAH 21,420 to 30,600.
  3. The destruction or damage to plant species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine is subject to administrative liability: a fine of UAH 340 to 510 for citizens with confiscation of illegally obtained plants; UAH 510 to 850 for officials with confiscation of illegally obtained plants and criminal liability under Ukrainian law, in particular the Law of Ukraine “On the Red Data Book of Ukraine”.
