At a meeting of the Assembly of Contributing States to the International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl, the contributing states announced support for about €7 million.
This was announced by Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, on her Facebook page.
This funding will be provided:
- Canada: plans to transfer €5 million from a fund that was recently closed in Russia;
- The European Commission: adds €1.7 million to the €5 million previously provided;
- Belgium: will also make a contribution.
This is not the first inflow to the Account. Ukraine has already received more than €26 million from 18 contributing countries.
At the meeting organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as the Account Manager, the parties approved a number of other important decisions:
- Established a Project Management Unit to more effectively implement grant agreements.
- Agreed on the direction of work on dismantling the unstable structures of the Shelter.
Thanks to the ratification on June 5 of the Framework Agreement between Ukraine and the EBRD on the International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl, the Account's funds will be used to restore equipment destroyed and damaged during the Russian occupation, systemic nuclear and radiation safety projects at the Chornobyl NPP, and other works.
Svitlana Hrynchuk also said that the ministry's plans for 2025 include signing new grant agreements and implementing joint projects in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.
"I am grateful to all partner countries for their unwavering stance towards Ukraine and your investments in our common future," she said.
