In the Kyiv region, scientists have spotted a new species of bird in the Chornobyl Reserve – the red-crowned goldfinch.
This was reported by the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve on Facebook.
According to the scientists, one of the smallest birds in Ukraine, the yellow-chinned goldfinch, has long been living on the territory of the Reserve, but its closest relative, the red-chinned goldfinch, was discovered recently. It is noted that a male and a female flew out to record their voices from a spruce plantation in the vicinity of the village of Yanivka.
"These small but colorful birds also have a nesting period. Therefore, in addition to its own appearance, the red-crested goldfly also rewarded the observer with a beautiful song," the reserve informs.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv region in the Chornobyl zone employees of the nature reserve noticed a record number of moose.
