Residents of Lviv submitted 41% more organic matter for composting in one month than in November 2022

In November, Lviv residents handed over 1,738 tons of food and garden waste to the city's composting station, where it will be processed into fertilizer compost.

This figure is 31% higher than in October, according to the Green City utility company on Facebook.

It is noted that Lviv residents gave 386,280 kilograms of food waste and 1,351,720 kilograms of gardening waste for recycling. This amount is 41% more than in November 2022.

"This shows the growing awareness and active support of the residents of our city in the important matter of preserving the environment and using organic resources responsibly," the message emphasized.

The Green City emphasized that they will continue to work on improving the composting system and ensuring convenience for residents during the separate collection of organic waste.

Compost is an excellent organic fertilizer. In addition, such processing of organic waste avoids emissions of the powerful greenhouse gas methane, which is formed during the decomposition of organic matter in a landfill.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Lviv in 2022, residents and guests of the city handed over 6,330.46 tons of organic waste to the composting station. During the year, the station was able to sell 1,051.31 tons of organic fertilizer.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, ecologists call not to burn fallen leaves, but to compost them, as well as to leave part of the vegetation on the ground to create conditions for animals and insects to hibernate.
