In 2024, Ukraine should adopt the law "On industrial pollution"

Oleksiy Ryabchyn, adviser to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, said that resolving the issue regarding the development of the biomethane industry will help Ukraine to receive a higher rating from the European Commission.

Serhiy Savchuk, director of development and investment of the VITAGRO group of companies, emphasized that exports are the basis for the development of the industry, according to the discussion of the Facebook post Ryabchyna the start of negotiations on joining the EU.

Ryabchyn noted that currently, the European Commission has rated the progress in energy at three points on a five-point scale. The overall progress in the implementation of the European acquis legislation received 4.

"I'm sure you can get an even higher rating for solving the biomethane issue," he wrote he.

Ryabchyn added that the EU does not set specific requirements for the start of biomethane export and this issue is not included in political agreements.

In his opinion, it is too early to make a forecast regarding the prospect of joining the EU in the coming years. After all, you need to focus not on deadlines, but on the scope of tasks.

"Homework is not only for the authorities, but also for businesses, communities, and citizens. That's when we fulfill it, then we will enter, – he emphasized Ryabchyn – So many more "interesting" and "creative" requirements will have to be fulfilled in order to enter. But we take it and do it."

It was also noted in the discussion that the report of the European Commission foresees that in 2024 Ukraine should adopt the law "On industrial pollution" (draft law No. 6004-d "On ensuring the constitutional rights of citizens to an environment safe for life and health").

Ryabchyn added that governmental and parliamentary stakeholders did everything possible to prioritize this law for the beginning of next year.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrot4e, that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council "Regarding additional measures to strengthen the stability of the functioning of the energy system and prepare the national economy for work in the autumn-winter period of 2023/24". Among other things, the decision provides for stimulating the production of thermal energy from alternative sources and production of biomethane.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the European Commission assessed the country's progress in the field of environmental protection and climate change at "2" on a five-point scale – "certain level". A part of the eco-community considers such progress insufficient, and a part considers it a failure.
