Residents of Kryvyi Rih complained about the periodic pollution of the Saksagan River by sewage from a well in the Terniv district and the spread of an unpleasant smell near residential buildings.
People also complained that the utility company "Kryvbasvodokanal" does not respond to their appeals, reports the public organization "Enough to poison Kryvyi Rih" on Facebook.
Eco-activists and eco-inspectors took part in the work of the site inspection commission. They also talked with communal workers and the Terniv District Executive Committee.
"They promised to close the well and to continue to monitor that waste does not enter the river," the DTKR said, adding that they plan to continue to cooperate with state authorities to prevent environmental pollution.
The message emphasized that the commission also visited Balka Kaletina. In this area, sewage discharges into the reservoir were recently recorded again, which caused a mass death of fish.
"Joint actions of the State Inspectorate and the public led to the desired effect: today nothing is flowing from the pipe, the situation is improving, which cannot but please. In addition, the employees of the sewage pumping station "Kryvbasvodokanal" know that their activities are closely monitored by state bodies and the community," said eco-activists.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kryvyi Rih in the Ingulets and Saksagan rivers in August 2023, an excess of the maximum allowable regulatory indicators of chlorides, sulfates and other pollutants was found.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kryvyi Rih, the regional office of water resources in the Dnipropetrovsk region announced open tenders for clearing, beautification and improving the ecological condition of the Saksagany River for over 387.6 million hryvnias.
