Residents of Kyiv are demanding to stop the construction of the "Gravity Park" residential complex with 13 high-rise buildings on 18 hectares of forest in the Svyatoshyn district, bordering the "Holosiivskyi" national nature park.

The corresponding petition, which in 7 days gathered more than 1,100 signatures out of the required 6,000, was registered on the website of the Kyiv City Council.

In the appeal, it was emphasized that the developer company "Kreator Bud" was supposed to reconstruct the "Prolisok" hotel-residential complex into a hotel-tourist complex. However, instead, she began to build a housing complex.

Activists emphasized that the construction of "Gravity Park" is spontaneous, because:

  • this plot of land is not allocated for construction;
  • urban planning conditions and restrictions were issued in violation of the requirements of the law and must be challenged in court.

They assumed that the developer also has plans for the site of Holosiiv National Park No. 119, because it is not on his maps.

The petition emphasized that reference groupings of mixed broad-leaved forests, which are part of the national park, grow on the site. They also protect people from the negative impact of Peremogy Avenue (Beresteysky) and Zhytomyr highway. However, the developer has already planned to cut down 352 trees.

"This directly violates the rights of the community to protect the environment and the Constitution of Ukraine," the appeal reads.

Activists added that 3 high-rise buildings are already being built on the site. Before the start of the work, the procedure for assessing the impact on the environment was not carried out. In addition, the officials of the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture actually distanced themselves from the problematic construction and did not even determine the percentage of development of the land plot.

It is noted that in 2021, the police opened criminal proceedings regarding spontaneous construction. However, the status of the case is unknown, and the police ignore citizens' appeals.

"We demand to stop the destruction of the green zone and to turn this area into a real recreation area for the community of the district, the city, and for our defenders," the petition reads.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kyiv, the community of Svyatoshynsky district continued the struggle against the construction of the Gravity Park residential complex on 12-13 high-rise buildings, which is actually taking place on the territory of the Holosiivskyi National Nature Park. Part of the forest has already been destroyed due to construction.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a court in Kyiv found illegal the lease of 19.72 hectares of land near Lake Vyrlytsia where they planned to build a shopping, entertainment and office center.
