The company plans to reduce emissions in the supply chain by more than 90%

Norwegian decarbonized steel producer Blastr Green Steel plans to build a green hydrogen DRI plant in Inkoo, Finland.

The plant will produce 2.5 million tons of ultra-low carbon steel per year, according to SteelOrbis.

It is noted that the area of ​​future production will reach more than 200 hectares.

The company said that the environmental impact assessment and necessary studies will be completed by the spring of 2024. Blastr is also preparing preliminary feasibility studies.

The material said that in July 2023, Blastr signed a strategic framework agreement with the American company Cargill Metals to accelerate the decarbonization of the steel value chain. Cargill will supply iron ore to the Blastr plant, which produces raw materials for the Inkoo steel plant, and will also trade ultra-low carbon steel products.

It is expected to help reduce Scope 1-3 carbon emissions by more than 90% compared to conventional steel production.

We remind you that in Turkey in Aliaga district, Izmir, the Habas company plans to build a hydrogen production and refueling plant, which will produce 1,000 m3 of H2 per hour. Hydrogen will be used on the Habas cold rolling mill and will also be offered on the market.

As previously reported by EcoPolitics, the general director of the Metinvest group, Yuri Ryzhenkov, said that the destroyed enterprises of Azovstal and MMKI in Mariupol will be rebuilt in 3-5 years practically from scratch using new green technologies.
