Meadows purify the air and do not need watering

In Vinnytsia, communal workers planted the first decorative onion instead of a traditional lawn on the main avenue of Vyshenskyi Park.

A mix of annual and perennial flowers, which can withstand drought, was planted on the site, the municipal enterprise "Institute of City Development" reports on Facebook.

The report said that Polish seeds were planted on the site. A landscape designer also helped arrange the bow.

The authors explained that seeding meadows is similar to seeding a lawn and involves removing sod, cleaning the soil from rhizomes, rolling and watering if there is no rain.

"We are looking forward to the first steps, because there are certain threats: unfavorable weather conditions – cold April and dry May – complicate our task. And insolent hungry pigeons, the authors said. – We believe that together we will achieve excellent results."

The message explained that replacing lawns with meadows, in addition to the aesthetic component, has a number of advantages, namely:

  • plants do not need watering and absorb excess water from showers;
  • effectively purify the air;
  • contribute to biodiversity;
  • are subject to mowing only 1-2 times a year and do not require feeding;
  • return true nature to city streets.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that 25 decorative meadows with minimal mowing will be planted in Kyiv in 2023 instead of traditional lawns.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the British environmental protection organization Plantlife urged gardeners not to mow the lawn in May in order to preserve wild flowers that provide nectar to bees.
