Ukraine received €15 million for the reconstruction of the Chernobyl zone from international donors, including the European Commission, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Ministry of Energy of the United States, Norway, Great Britain and Germany.
The head of the State Agency for the Management of the Exclusion Zone, Yevhen Kramarenko, said that total revenues should reach €225 million, Ukrinform reports.
He noted that DAZV and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources have developed a recovery plan, which is now being approved at the state level. It has been agreed with donors and is already being filled with funds, and the planned activities are beginning to be implemented.
Kramarenko said that the zone restoration plan contains 9 points and requires €225 million. Although the damage from the occupation amounts to about €100 million, the plan is designed not only to restore, but also to improve the functioning of the exclusion zone. In addition, it is planned to create a scientific hub on the territory of the zone.
He explained that the plan includes, among other things:
- demining of the entire territory;
- restoration of computer and office equipment, infrastructure and equipment for handling radioactive materials.
According to Kramarenko, as part of the plan, it has already been possible to restore:
- radiation control at checkpoints;
- licensing activities of enterprises regarding the management of radioactive waste;
- partially restore computer equipment,
- receive fire fighting equipment that will partially replace the stolen one.
"With the help of international donors, we are already taking measures to restore the exclusion zone, and according to our plans, this territory will not only recover, but also improve in 1-2 years," he emphasized.
It is noted that in April, representatives of the State Agency plan to hold a meeting with donors in Oslo, where they will discuss the expansion of support and cooperation.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Ukraine hopes to receive €1 million from France for the inspection of the unstable structures of the "Shelter", an isolation structure above unit 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After all, because of the war, the country cannot independently solve some urgent problems.
As EcoPolitics previously reported, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets, said that the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone could become a world scientific center for the study of the peaceful atom.
