In the air of Kyiv during the week with 15 to 20 in August 2022, an exceedance of the average daily maximum allowable concentrations of nitrogen dioxide by 4.8 times and formaldehyde by 3.6 times was found.

Compared to the previous week, the level of nitrogen dioxide pollution decreased and formaldehyde slightly increased, says the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • 4.8 times – on Victory Square;
  • 2.9-3.4 times – on Demiivska and Bessarabska squares, Kaunaska and Semena Sklyarenko streets;
  • 1.8-2.6 times – on Obolonskyi and Peremogy avenues, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Inzhener Borodin, Dovzhenka and Popudrenka streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 3.0-3.6 times – on Peremoha, Bessarabska and Demiivska squares, Peremoha avenue, Sklyarenko street;
  • 1.7-2.9 times – on Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, in the Hydropark district, Akademika Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Popudrenka and Kaunaska streets.

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • suspended solids – 1.0-1.1 times on Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Peremoha avenue (Sviatoshyn metro area), Kaunaska street;
  • of carbon monoxide – 1.3-1.7 times on Peremogy Avenue, Inzhener Borodin and Akademik Strazheska streets (intersection with Vaclav Havel Boulevard).

Specialists of the observatory collected and analyzed 1,602 samples of atmospheric air.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Kyivans were warned about air pollution hazardous to health.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, in Holosiivskyi Park, houses for bats were installed.
