Scientists have calculated that air emissions from one russian tank per day cause more than UAH 1,066 worth of damage to nature in Ukraine per day.

Just standing still, such tanks destroy and compact almost 2 hectares of Ukrainian land, the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, about 1,200 units of such equipment were concentrated on the Ukrainian border, causing 1.28 million UAH of damage per day.

"Imagine what these areas are, taking into account the path they have traveled through our territory," the Ministry of the Environment noted.

According to research by Voorhees W. B., a 10-ton machine compacts the soil to a depth of 60 cm, and the weight of one tank is about 40 tons.

Soil compaction causes a decrease in productivity (yield) of plants by 40-60%. Ecosystems are also undergoing changes that will take years to recover.

In addition, more than 84,000 tons of scrap metal remained in Ukraine from the destroyed tanks of the russian federation. Oils and other toxic materials from them can enter the soil and groundwater. It is dangerous to get such equipment into rivers and lakes, because metal oxidation can lead to water pollution.

In the material, it was noted that in the EkoZagroza mobile application, you can find in real time complete analytics on the damage caused to Ukrainian nature as a result of russia's armed aggression. As well as information about the destroyed equipment and its impact on the environment.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Ukraine, in the 4 months since the start of the full-scale invasion, russian troops have caused land and air damage in the amount of almost 254.3 billion hryvnias, for the calculations of the Operational Headquarters.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, experts believe that the minimum two generations of Ukrainians will feel the damage caused to nature by hostilities as a result of soil, air and water pollution. This can cause serious diseases, including cancer.
