The air in Uzhhorod is currently the ‘healthiest’

As of the morning of 13 October, no critical exceedances of pollutant levels have been observed in Ukrainian cities.

This is evidenced by data from the international monitoring platform IQAir.

On average, the air quality in Kyiv is good. The main pollutant identified is PM2.5 particulate matter, with a concentration of 8.6 µg/m3. The upper limit set by the World Health Organisation is 5.5 µg/m3.

At several locations, air pollution levels are moderate, which still does not pose a threat to people. For example, on Sichovykh Striltsiv Street, the concentration of fine particulate matter is 13.9 µg/m3, on Konovaltsia Street – 15.4 µg/m3, on Regeneratorna Street – 15 µg/m3, and on Trostianetska Street – 13.9 µg/m3.

Moderate levels of air pollution have also been recorded in a number of regional centres. Here is a list of them, showing the concentration of the main pollutant:

  • Cherkasy – 16.2 µg/m3;
  • Rivne – 14.8 µg/m3;
  • Odessa – 14.7 µg/m3;
  • Kharkiv – 12.3 µg/m3;
  • Zaporizhzhia – 12.1 µg/m3;
  • Chernihiv – 10.7 µg/m3;
  • Chernivtsi – 10.3 µg/m3;
  • Ivano-Frankivsk – 10.1 µg/m3;
  • Lviv – 9.8 µg/m3;
  • Lutsk – 9.5 µg/m3.

The platform classifies the remaining major cities as having good air quality:

  • Dnipro – 8.5 µg/m3;
  • Vinnytsia – 8.5 µg/m3;
  • Mykolaiv – 6.9 µg/m3;
  • Ternopil – 6.6 µg/m3;
  • Poltava – 6.2 µg/m3;
  • Khmelnytskyi – 4.9 µg/m3;
  • Zhytomyr – 3.2 µg/m3;
  • Kherson – 2.8 µg/m3;
  • Uzhhorod – 2.5 µg/m3.

It is worth noting that rocket attacks can be a separate cause of local pollution. In some places, the concentration of harmful substances can increase tenfold as a result.
