The largest crisis magnitude in the green energy of Ukraine

Due to the war, half of RES facilities are under threat of complete or partial destruction

The financial problems of the renewable energy industry in Ukraine, which arose due to the war, can be partially solved by selling clean electricity to the EU.

Such an opinion was expressed by Chairman of the Board of the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine Vladyslav Sokolovskyi.

According to him, it is possible to establish a mandatory percentage of RES in the total volume of exports, which will be sold by Guaranteed Buyer, and then be settled with green generation.

According to him, it would be good to provide green energy companies with special conditions for access to the market one day in advance. Accordingly, such decisions will reduce the burden on Guaranteed Buyer from payments under the green tariff.

At the same time, the financial performance of operating SPPs is adversely affected by the dispatching teams on generation restrictions caused by the need to ensure the reliability of the power system. The volume of SES system restrictions for March-May 2022 is 573 GW-h. In financial terms, 80 million euros or 2.5 billion UAH.

Ukraine managed to achieve significant results in the development of RES. As of the beginning of 2022, the total installed capacity was 9.5 GW, and the amount of investments in the industry reached $12 billion.

Due to the war, half of the RES facilities are under threat of complete or partial destruction - in the areas where active hostilities continue, 47% of the installed capacity of power plants is based on renewable energy sources. Also, many RES stations are located in regions adjacent to military operations. At the same time, investors are in no hurry to invest money, waiting for the stabilization of the situation and an understanding of the further picture of the war.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, russia dealt a powerful blow to Ukrainian green energy and the future of the industry depends on winning, the government's solution to the problems in the electricity market and investors.

The delay may be due to a slight freeze in legislative processes in the EU during the European Parliament elections, as well as due to the presence of political pressure.
