Ukraine and the International Energy Agency (IEA) signed a joint declaration of association, which will provide a basis for closer cooperation in the field of energy security, restoration and green transition.
The signing ceremony took place in Warsaw with the participation of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko and the Executive Director of the IEA Fatih Birol, the Ministry of Energy reports on Facebook.
"The IEA has been working with Ukraine for almost two decades, and in these particularly difficult times after russia's unprovoked invasion, we continue to strengthen relations to support Ukraine's significant recovery needs and help it build a new energy future," Birol said.
He added that Ukraine plays an important role in ensuring energy security in Europe and beyond, and has set ambitious goals for increasing electricity trade with Europe.
"Solidarity becomes even more important in these times of crisis. Only by uniting can we resist russian aggression and realize the IEA's mission of creating a safe and sustainable energy future. As part of Europe and a candidate for EU membership, Ukraine is ready to take an active part in strengthening energy security in region," Galushchenko emphasized.
He also noted that after the victory, Ukraine will need the experience, support and cooperation of the IEA in the reconstruction of energy systems.
"We will implement the most modern technologies in our newest energy system," Galushchenko said.
Currently, the IEA community provides about 75% of the world's energy demand and covers more than 5 billion consumers.
As reported EcoPolitic earlier, Galushchenko stated that the inclusion of gas and nuclear energy in the green taxonomy may deprive the russian Federation of the opportunity to finance the war and blackmail the EU.
