The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during his speech to the Parliament of New Zealand, called to support the Ukrainian formula for peace and start the consolidation of the world in order to counter ecocide.
It is reported by Office of the President.
"So, you must have heard about ten points that can restore peace to Ukraine and all of Europe, and to the world – security and stability, which were shattered by Russian strikes. These are very transparent and logical points," the Ukrainian leader said.
Such items were considered:
- radiation and nuclear safety;
- food safety;
- energy security;
- the release of all prisoners of war and the return of deportees;
- full implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of territorial integrity of Ukraine;
- the withdrawal of Russian troops from our land and, thanks to this, the cessation of hostilities;
- restoring justice through prosecution of war criminals;
- countering ecocide;
- preventing the escalation of the war and fixing its end.
According to him, each of these points is able to remove one or another element of Russian aggression, and therefore, all of them guarantee peace.
"I urge you to support the Ukrainian peace formula in your parliament and to start the consolidation of the world for the sake of the eighth point of the formula – for the sake of countering ecocide. Let Russia be responsible for all manifestations of its aggression," Zelenskyi said.
The President of Ukraine offered New Zealand to help implement any of the points in the formula, but advised them to pay attention to environmental safety.
He emphasized that currently 174 thousand sq. m. km of Ukrainian territory are contaminated with mines and unexploded ammunition, the waters of the Black and Azov seas are also contaminated with mines and have lost hundreds of thousands of living beings who died as a result of hostilities and the activity of the Russian navy.
In addition, Zelensky noted that in Ukraine dozens of rivers are polluted, hundreds of coal mines are flooded, dozens of the most dangerous enterprises, including chemical ones, were destroyed by Russian strikes, and 3 million hectares of forests were damaged by hostilities
"All this and other manifestations of the Russian ecocidal policy will have direct negative consequences for millions of people, for our region and neighboring regions," the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
As EcoPolitic reported earlier, as of November 11, the war has affected Ukraine's environment for 1.37 trillion hryvnias of environmental damage.
