8.8 million hryvnias were allocated to the special fund of local budgets

In Ternopil region, polluting companies paid record environmental taxes in 2023, amounting to UAH 28.4 million.

This amount exceeded the amount of environmental taxes paid in 2022 by UAH 5 million, according to the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Ternopil Oblast.

It is noted that environmental tax is a nationwide mandatory payment that polluters pay based on actual volumes:

  • emissions into atmospheric air;
  • discharged into water bodies;
  • placement of waste;
  • the actual amount of radioactive waste temporarily stored by their producers;
  • the actual amount of radioactive waste generated;
  • of the actual volume of radioactive waste accumulated by April 1, 2009.

The report emphasized that UAH 8.8 million of the total amount of environmental taxes paid was allocated to the special fund of local budgets. These funds are to be spent on environmental programs.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Ternopil region, polluting enterprises paid UAH 22.8 million in environmental tax for 9 months of 2023. Of this amount, more than UAH 6.6 million was transferred to special funds of local budgets.

As EcoPolitics previously reported, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has developed a draft law "On Environmental Tax for Waste Disposal and Mining Waste Disposal", which provides for a 10-fold increase in the tax rate for the disposal of mixed household waste.
