Among the advantages of such a house are environmental friendliness, cost and speed of construction

Oleksandr Guch, a resident of the village of Derno in Volyn near Lutsk, is building a two-story eco-home made of straw, clay and wood.

He is convinced that his house will be much better, unlike brick or foam concrete, to keep cool during the day and warm at night, reports Suspilne.

Guch said that he chose mainly rye straw for construction, so that rodents would not breed. He chose brick for the construction of load-bearing walls, and wood for the frame. Guch managed to install a metal profile roof and carry out electrical wiring, other works are ongoing.

The technology of such construction consists in mixing clay with sand to a homogeneous mass, to which fine straw is then added. He smears the resulting mass on the walls of the house.

The area of the house with an attic is 140 square meters. The man has been building it with the help of his friend Serhii Stasyuk, a civil engineer by profession, since 2019 and plans to finish it in a few years.

"A lot of advantages are heat insulation and noise insulation. Among the disadvantages is the flammability of such material," Stasiuk said.

Associate Professor of the Department of Construction and Civil Engineering of the Lutsk National Technical University, Orest Pakholyuk, named environmental friendliness, cost and speed of construction among the advantages of such a building. However, there must be a technological coating of clay or it should be renewed every year.

"Such a construction hides a lot of nuances and details that can affect the quality of the housing. First of all, it is the quality of the construction work. If there are flaws, then the building will have ventilation and drafts," he said.

Guch also planted a garden next to the house and grows fruit trees. He also shared his dream – together with his wife, to raise children in their own home.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Vinnytsia, in the village of Velika Vuliga, in the Tulchyn district, the Kushpit family built an eco-house on their own.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the destroyed by Russians Bucha in the Kyiv region they will install eco-huts with solar panels for people who lost their homes due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation.
