Air suffered the most damage

Since February 24, Russian aggression has caused 47 billion 483 million hryvnias of damage to the environment of Kyiv and the region.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the State Environmental Inspectorate recorded the occupier's crimes against the environment, reports the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Capital District on Facebook.

"Environment  a silent victim of armed conflicts," the press service emphasized.

The message emphasized that the atmospheric air suffered the most damage. Thus, fires at oil depots, commercial warehouses and energy infrastructure facilities caused losses of 46 billion 814 million hryvnias.

In addition, eco-inspectors calculated 669 million hryvnias in damages from littering and pollution of lands due to the destruction caused by the Russian army.

It is noted that already in April 2022, eco-inspectors conducted the first inspections of the places where enemy shells caused the greatest damage to the environment.

"After the de-occupation, eco-inspectors of the Capital District, as part of involvement in criminal proceedings, make regular trips to the sites of military eco-crimes in the territory of Kyiv region and Kyiv," the message emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that eco-inspectors calculated over 1.54 trillion hryvnias in damages to the surrounding natural environment of Ukraine, which the Russian army has inflicted since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Ukrainian animal defenders of the UAnimals team calls on foreign state, international public organizations and eco-activists to join forces for holding the Russian Federation accountable for ecocide in Ukraine and the restoration of the environment after the war, in particular with the help of reparations.
