On February 22, trees were crowned again on Sobornia Street, because the regional council's recommendations have not yet been implemented

An open letter has been sent to Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych demanding an immediate stop to "rejuvenation" tree pruning, or crown pruning, during which all branches are cut from a tree.

Senkevych is also required to accept the recommendations of the Mykolaiv Regional Council on the state of green spaces, developed in October 2023, the author of the appeal and a member of the regional council, Alla Ryazhskikh, wrote on Facebook.

She emphasized that the regional council has repeatedly appealed to the mayor about the state of green spaces in Mykolaiv and the work of public utilities. However, Senkevych has not responded to them.

Ryazhskikh noted that on Thursday, February 22, trees were once again crowned on Soborna Street, as the recommendations of the regional council have not yet been implemented. She also drew attention to the urgency of this problem and the acute social tension over tree trimming.

"I ask you to stop the actions regarding the so-called "rejuvenation" pruning of trees on the territory of the city until the city council adopts the corresponding regulatory act," she wrote.

Ryazhskikh also called to include her, as the head of the specialized regional deputy commission, in the team for the development of such a document. And also the first deputy head of the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District, Yana Maiboroda.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, mass crowning of trees in Ukrainian cities, that is, pruning to the trunks, not only spoils the aesthetics of the streets, but also leads to the death of trees.
