Chairman of the board of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi said that in Ukraine it is planned to change the format of the energy system in the coming years, namely to build smaller scale green power plants.
He told about this in an interview with Forbes, stressing that biofuels, wind and solar energy will be cheaper than energy from coal and gas.
He noted that many small power plants are more difficult to disable with missiles or drones than one large one.
"You can do a lot of damage by hitting a 1,000 MW power plant with missiles. Another thing is to destroy 100 power plants with a capacity of 10 MW," he said Kudrytskyi.
He emphasized that decentralization of the energy system is not only a question of efficiency, but also a requirement of security.
"There is no need to restore everything as it was. We plan to do better, to apply more modern technical solutions, to protect objects more," he added.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the deputy head of the Office of the President, Rostislav Shurma, said that Ukraine needs about €40 billion of investments to modernize the infrastructure. After all, the country plans to decentralize the energy system and become an energy hub for Europe, thanks to the export of green hydrogen and clean energy.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2050, which reflects the goals of the European green course and the achievement of carbon neutrality of the energy sector by 2050.
